It's no secret that HH is a dog person. I remember year 1 he was talking about this big ol' horse dog, a cane corso, I think? Whatever it was, it was huge and would need about 3 acres of land to roam and pillage.
Uh, no.
So, he has to get used to having a cat. His dad has a cat, so it's not like he's never been around them before. Every day he is amazed by the stuff she does, and I'm like, "ok..." I guess because I've had cats most of my life. I WILL say that Bogey is unlike any other cat I've had before.
They seem to have some kind of competition going on. Or something. I can't quite figure it out. They have their own communication going on. Mostly him yelling at her for doing some cat like thing like, running under his feet, begging for treats, wanting to sleep at the foot of the bed. When he walks toward the bedroom, she runs that way in attempt to beat him to the door and then run under the bed, 'cause she knows he hates it. I don't know how she knows, but she just knows. Every time I come home from work, they are having some kind of "discussion" and he has now "banned" her from the bedroom. The door is literally closed and she is lurking in the laundry room, waiting for the chance to sneak in. LOL!
In the past few days, I've gotten the following text messages while at work:
"Where are the incense??? This d*mn cat stinks!" (left a present in the litter box for him, I guess)
"Crazy azz cat in here doin' wind-sprints!" (anyone who has a cat knows they will just burst into random sprints around the house. I call it the Kitty 500.)
"This d*mn cat just sh*tted smellin' like a grown d*mn person! And, got the nerve to be lookin' at me like she ain't did nothin' wrong!" (Riiiiiiight. Because humans always smell like roses and honeysuckle. LOL)
"Ummm...I didn't realize that the quilt was a "dry clean only". So, if the pillow cases come out wrecked from the washer...Bogey did it! :-\"
Sir. Now we're blaming everything on the cat? LOL!
They frequently side eye each other. I had a good pic the other day, but I accidentally deleted it. He was on the couch and she was on the back of the couch. They were just staring each other down. It truly is comical.
Every now and then, they have a nice moment. A couple of nights ago we were sitting on the couch watching tv. I was on the right, he was on my left. She jumped up and curled up into the space to his left, and he was rubbing her on the head. Awwwwww. Lasted for about 90 seconds and then she got annoyed. I guess he wasn't doing it right. *shrug*
Oh well. My first cat lived for 17 years, so I have a feeling Bogey will be here for a minute. He's gonna have to deal with it!
Bless all of our hearts. But we're not getting a dog right now. So...yeah.
Random musings of a grown, 30-something female who is just trying to live life and get it relatively right.

Feast or Famine
You know how when you're single, it's hard to find someone worthy of dating...and then when you're in a relationship, folks come out of the woodworks? That's how it seems to be with my job situation.
I promise you, the MINUTE I began giving serious thought to going back to NY, here come the job opportunities. LOL! First, I got a call from a manager I had done a phone interview with previously. She called and told me about a position out of her office, but she wasn't sure if it could be worked from a remote location. She said she'd check with her managers at the end of the week and let me know. I hadnt heard anything before yesterday, so I assumed it wasn't available anymore. Yesterday, my current manager asked me if I had applied, and asked me to forward the confirmation email. Still waiting to hear on that.
Then a workers comp adjuster who previously worked for my company, sent an email to someone who still worked for us, asking her to find out if any liability adjusters were looking as they had a position open. I forwarded my resume last Friday. So did another co-worker. We both had interviews today. I kept hearing things about this position that were making me think twice about applying, but what I was told in the interview made me feel much better. It's on a different side of town but the commute wouldn't be bad.
On Tuesday, my old supervisor called me and said that she was asked for recommendations for another internal position, and she wanted to know if I was interested. I told her I'd like to know more about it, and the next morning after yoga class, I spoke with a manager in that department. What she told me piqued my interest, so I applied yesterday morning. Today, the director called me to do a phone interview, but I missed him. I left him a message this afternoon.
Things like thtis always make me say, "really?!?" My friend Stacy says this is the universe telling me I need to stay in Charlotte. She refuses to discuss relocation with me. LOL! LDR says, "do what you gotta do, babe."
So, what I gotta do is wait and see how this all plays out. :)

Changes, Changes, Changes
So if we're friends on FB or Twitter, you know I got the news Monday that I'm going to be laid off in February. The account I handle claims on has decided that they are going to handle their own claims in house.
Now, they will have some positions up there, but frankly from wh at I've heard, I would not want to work for them directly. Reduction in pay, reduction in vacay time, totally different and very rigid culture. Uh, no. Sigh.
This economy makes it so hard because the choices are limited. It's almost like you are just caught between a rock and a hard place. You have to fight like mad to find something halfway decent, or just take what you get and be miserable.
I'm weighing options right now, including a move back to New York, since LDR hasn't been able to get his transfer down here. Honestly, if it wasn't for JUST getting the rental house, my immediate answer would be load up the truck and get on back to NY so I can get on with the rest of my life. I don't know what kind of life I'd have in Syracuse, and I certainly never envisioned returning...but at least I'd be with the one I love.
Then there is always the option of Virginia, because that's where my sisters are. They have room for me and I know they'd help me until I find another position and get my own place. That's a little closer to NY than I am right now, but without all the ridiculous snow.
People keep asking, "what are you going to do?" Um, I just found out on MONDAY - I have not made any decisions as of yet! LOL! I'm just letting the news sink in. It's funny because many people I'm close to are going through changes and it seems like we're all searching for the stability we once had.

Say What?!?
Yesterday was a busy day at work. Mondays are generally our heaviest volume days. Lots of people are out of the office due to the holidays. One of my co-workers (who just got engaged - yay!) is out for the week. Another one, who works remotely, has been a butt and taken off every Monday this month (except next week, and only 'cause it wasn't available). She has done this several times this year, along with taking other heavy volume days off. She took today, too. *I* was supposed to have today off...but, I digress. Not the point of this post. ::side eye:: to her azz, anyway.
Some time after lunch, we all got an email. Something to the effect of, please join us for a conference call at 1pm. Umm hmm. It's Monday - I got 6 new claims, my phone is ringing off the hook, I ain't even leave for lunch. Oh - and you haven't told us what this little call is about. Yeah, ok. Next!
I promise you, of the skeleton crew that WAS in the office, 90% of us were not on that call. LOL! That's so bootleg, I know. But given that the email had no subject, and we weren't told what the call was about, we all kind of thought, "whatever!" Usually, if something is really important, our office manager will send out an email telling us that attendance is mandatory.
While that very short conference call was progressing, I was on the phone with a customer. I began to hear rumblings and grumblings around me, but I couldn't really focus on what they were saying. I couldn't wait to get off the phone with that man. Especially because, while I was on with him, we got an office wide email that we should meet at 1:30 to discuss The Call in more detail.
Uh oh.
I got him off the phone about 4 minutes before the meeting was to begin. I said to my co-workers, "OK - what happened now?"
Her reply? "They sold us to (name of competitor)."
::blink::
Um. I'm sorry. What??? I think I just hallucinated. Mind you, less than 6 months ago, we were fighting to keep this competitor from taking our account. The only account we work on in my office. If we had lost the account to them, I wouldn't have had a job. So...yeah. This sale is akin to Dunkin' Donuts saying, "we got into this coffee thing, and it was great. But now we just want to focus on our bread and butter - our donuts. So, we're selling our coffee operations to Starbucks."
Usually, when something this big happens in my industry, you hear rumblings of it WELL before it goes down. Trade publications, rumors from management at other companies, etc. We heard NOTHING. And judging by his reaction in the meeting, I don't think our office manager knew it was going down, either. Might be why we didn't get that "mandatory" meeting email.
When we walked in the meeting, my stomach dropped, 'cause the Grim Reaper was in there. Who's the Grim Reaper, you ask? Well, he's the HR Manager who handled the layoffs when this same company laid me off in 2005. You don't want to see him, 'cause that usually means somebody's gettin the ax. Well, I guess if he's the Grim Reaper, somebody would be getting the scythe. Anywho, whatchu doin' here, Grimmy? I need my job, man!
Long story short: we've been sold, but we're all going to be offered comparable jobs. That was part of the sale deal (insert sigh of relief here). All of this will be in place by the end of 1st quarter 2011. Grimmy is just there to help us with the HR questions of it all. How will benefits terminate, what happens to 401Ks, cash balance pensions, PTO, etc. Oh. A'ight. Good lookin' out, GR. Don't touch me, though. I choose corporate life, I promise!
My new year is starting out crazy, and it's still December! Word? Word.
My take aways:
1. When you get an email telling you to get on a conference call, get on the dang call.
2. Expect the unexpected!
3. Change is inevitable.
That's the ball game! Thanks for comin' out. It's been real. Tip your waiter on your way out.

Social Networking Hiatus
I decided, that for the month of October, I will take a hiatus from Twitter and Facebook. Most folks are shocked and want to know the "why's" of it all.
I love my FB people and my Twitter people. I truly do. But I find myself distracted from other things I want to do (*cough* blogging *cough*)and reading more, etc. So I am challenging myself to blog every day in October, since I won't be on FB and Twitter. I think I can do it!
I'm frustrated that I can't run, but I can focus that energy on other things. It's time to get going!
READING/STUDYING:
I have two books I want to crack into:

I eat like crap. Well...I have good days, and then when I have a bad day, it's a "crash and burn" really bad day. My DBF is a pescatarian. I have been gradually cutting down on things. I haven't had pork or beef in ages. Chicken is going to be a challenge, though. I won't even lie.
I was talking to my friend Kenya about some of the things that plague me: allergies, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, acne...and we started discussing pH. She recommended this book to me and I purchased it that day. I will delve into it in the month of October and find out what I need to know about getting my inner flora in order.

Since I chopped my hair off, I have been thinking about starting locs. I'm so used to doing my own hair, I don't want to find myself dependent on a stylist for every little thing again. I want to know as much about it as I can, and see if I can maintain them on my own.
I've been wearing my hair natural since 2003. It's such a different world now! Back then, we didn't have a lot of sources for info, other than MotownGirl's website....and occasionally some info from Naturally Curly. Now, it seems like everybody and their momma has a blog. I love that there's more information out here. I've pretty much tried everything except locs. I've cut it short 3 times, I've dyed it, flat ironed it, and everything else. Now it's time to take the journey in a new direction.
My last hair cut was in August. As much as I'm wanting to cut it again, I am going to let it grow. I'll figure out how much hair I need to start the locs, and go from there!
So, feel free to yell at me if I miss any blog posts in October. I think I'll start with the pH book first. I hope to blog about some of the things I'm learning, as well as what's going on with life in general.

Sending up a prayer...
Sorry to be M.I.A. Nothing major really going on!
KC got to the rink early on Sunday. When I caught up with him, I could tell something was "off." I asked him what was wrong...he paused for about 5 seconds. I swear, my first thought was, "oh gosh, who is sick???" And sure enough he said, "I just found out my dad has cancer...in his pancreas and his spleen."
My heart just dropped. I have dealt with cancer so much in my family. I won't even give you the whole rundown. In February 2008, my dad found out he had prostate cancer. But his PSA was at a good level, and the cancer was only on one side, so they just went in and took his prostate out. Fast forward to July 2008 - my mom calls, my dad is at the hospital. His stomach had ruptured and they had to do immediate surgery. It was 50/50 as to whether or not he was going to make it through the first 48 hours. I thought my dad was gonna die...and I couldn't get to him and there was nothing I could do. I was all out of sorts.
My dad and I had a rocky relationship for a while. I won't go into all the details, but from about age 24 until 30, I barely talked to my dad. I was just angry with him about things that happened when I was growing up. Finally at 30, the light bulb came on. My dad is human. He's not perfect. All I can do is move forward from here. We started mending our relationship, and last year we probably talked more than we had in a long time. I was glad that we had at least mended things, so if we did lose him, I wasn't going to be filled with the "woulda/coulda/shoulda." Luckily, he made it through. A five week stay in the hospital resulted in a forced detox...he no longer smokes cigarettes, and most importantly, he no longer drinks. We have the best conversations now.
But back to KC - please keep him and his father in your prayers. One of these days we are going to eradicate cancer. I can't wait.

Are we seeing the same thing??
I wrote this yesterday and forgot to post. Ooops!
Isn't it funny how two different people can see the same situation in different ways? I had to chuckle about that this evening, after a phone call I got from RB.
RB has this crush on me, like I have a crush on KC. Like, if this was junior high, he would have passed me the note by now. You know the one: "Will you go with me?" - and then the three boxes for "yes," "no," and "maybe." He acknowledges that he understands that I'm not feeling him that way. But that doesn't stop him from bringing things up, in an effort to prove some kind of point.
We both normally get to the rink early, so we leave our bags in the same area. That usually results in us walking out at the same time. Last night, I got my shoes on, and then I decided to hit the vending machine to get something to drink. When I came back, he had gotten up and was talking to some people. So I ran and grabbed my bag, and then I ended up having my own side bar conversations.I walked out to my car and got in to leave. RB got to his car after me, and waved good bye, and then I left.
Tonight he called me, because he felt bad about leaving my bag sitting there and felt he should have grabbed it. Um...ok? **insert crickets chirping** It really wasn't that big of a deal! I told him it was fine, there was nothing to apologize for. He went into some other small talk, and then said, "and there was something else I wanted to say to you."
Oh lawd. Here we go! Jesus take the wheel. There always has to be some type of dramatic start to his dialogue. Why?
He proceeds to say, "well...I just wanted you to know, that if I had a girlfriend...I wouldn't skate with other women as much." Um...ok? I mean, I don't know what to say sometimes when he comes out with these revelations, because really it all has to do with me and KC, but he won't just come out and say it. I'm trying to work on my smart-assedness...so the alternative is to pause and really think of a response that won't be snarky. But, I know why he's saying this. KC and I skated all three slow songs together, laughing and talking...only acknowledging other folks when we needed to get around folks who were in the way. RB was forced to skate with a couple of chicks he was tutoring.
I asked him, "what is it that you think you're doing wrong?" Everybody knows that if you want to learn something, you go to RB. He has the most patience out of anyone in that rink, when it comes to teaching people moves. People go to him all the time for help. I should hope that if he had a girlfriend, and she was a skater, she would understand. It certainly is his choice to choose NOT to skate with folks - but it's not mine.
At this point, I think he was waiting for me to say, "I agree! If I had a boyfriend I wouldn't skate with other guys as much." I said nothing, and continued munching on my sandwich, Sun Chips, and dill pickle (I've been obsessed with pickles lately. No, there's no bun in the oven. LOL). Then I told him - just to be contrary - that I really don't see what the problem was, and I don't think he'd be doing anything wrong. If he had hair, he'd be pulling it out, after dealing with me. LOL!
I could tell that he wanted to say more, but I just steered him away from that convo. Distracted him by talking about improvements that need to be made to that rink, what I would do if I was running my own rink, etc. That usually keeps him occupied. I just was not in the mood to have the "Come to Jesus" meeting with him tonight. But I see that it's going to happen sooner, rather than later.

It's Monday, and I'm smiling??
It's KC's fault. I'm having a hard time creating space between us. I like attention. If somebody is into me, and I'm into them, we need to spend time together. Even if it's just chillin' on the couch, watching a movie. I already know that time is NOT a commodity he has. He works 12-15 hour days most weeks, and then he's working an hour and a half away from here. By the time he gets to the rink, I've already been there for 2 hours. And this morning, he left for a 3 day trip to TX. Why am I torturing myself??
Probably because I really enjoy our conversations, when we do get to have them. He makes me laugh. And then when HE laughs, the dimples pop.
I actually stopped at Starbucks today and STILL made it to work early. Now I'm going to fix some oatmeal, and then try to carry this happy feeling throughout the day. Let's hope nobody calls to try and ruin it!
In hair-related news, I wore a twist out puff to the rink last night. Sweated up a storm. Came home and did not re-twist, just tied a scarf on it and prayed. It's making for nice 2nd day hair. Another advantage to keeping the ends neat and tidy. Now I need to step up my maintenance game, to keep these ends in order. The woman from the Indian grocery store never did call me to let me know that the powders she ordered are in. I'm just going to have to roll up on that store this weekend. Since I'm happy today, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt, that maybe she lost the piece of paper she wrote everything on. Yeah...that's the ticket. :)

To Be Continued, Part 3
So, I hung out with KC yesterday. I had wine, he had Mich Ultra (he's got diabetes and has to be careful what he drinks), and we watched Seven Pounds. Man, that movie starts off slowly. Once it finally got rolling, I did enjoy it. He is one of those people who try to guess what happens. But at least he was smart enough not to spit out all his theories. I hate that.
I'm not even going to go into all the details. I'm just going to say that he's really messing up my plans. This thing may be doomed to failure before it gets started. We shall see.
That's it folks, short and sweet. Except that he's off again today (a rarity for him), so we're going to hang out again tonight. Right now, I need to stop daydreaming, and go get my tires rotated.
Peace out!

Yeah, so...
I got back from the soccer tournament in time to take a quick nap, and then head to the rink. I was tired, but I made myself go, because I knew I would have fun.
Of course, when I got there, the first person I ran into was Roll Bounce, in the parking lot. I was trying to time it so that he'd already be in there skating. I forgot the traffic would be lighter, since folks are out of town for the holiday. I pulled up as he was about to walk in. He stopped and waited for me.
The first part of the night is generally slow jams/old school music, which I love. I skated with RB during that time, and I figured that would hold him for a while. The whole time I was scanning the crowd for Kansas City. I didn't think he was coming, but I tried to keep hope alive.
KC always sneaks in like a thief in the night. I never see him come in. He just materializes, skating around the outside of the rink. I see him with that signature hat he always has on, and that smooth skating, and it makes me smile. We got to skate all three slow songs tonight, because RB got caught up with teaching some newbies how to skate backwards.
If you remember in the first "To Be Continued" post (here), I said I liked my little skating rink relationship with KC. It was cool. We skated. We went our separate ways. I got to see his dimples the next week, if he showed up. No complications whatsoever.
Yeah, well...that got messed up tonight. KC asked for my number. If you saw his dimples, you'd know why I couldn't bring myself to say no. He was just so smooth with it. No corny lines.
KC: (Skates up behind me and puts his arm around my waist) "I've been meaning to ask you this for about 4 months now."
Me: "Really? What's up?" (Dunce! I was totally clueless about what was coming next. I thought he was going to ask me to clarify if I was dating RB, lol)
KC: "Can I call you some time?"
Me: "Yeah! Sure!"
Sigh.
Yep. I didn't even try to fight it. I changed out of my skates, walked over and gave him the number. LOL! At worst, he'll just be boring or a mess outside of the rink, and then I'll be over my little crush. At best...we'll just have to see.
He sent me a text when I was driving home, so that I'd have his number in my phone (how did he know that I don't answer numbers I don't recognize? lol). Now, it's a waiting game.
Definitely "to be continued."

Skating rink crush
I don't even know if this goes under "Relationships and Dating," because we're not in a relationship and we're not dating. But I don't have the energy to think up another category, so that's where it's going.
I have this crush at the skating rink. We're going to call him KC, 'cause that's where he's from - Kansas City. I knew it was somewhere in Missouri by the way he skates. I originally guessed St. Louis. I LOVE the way he skates. It's just so SMOOTH. And different from everyone else. We don't really have a skating style in NC. We are a hodge-podge of different styles. We have some folks from New York. We have some Chicago/James Brown skaters. We have a few Detroit skaters...then we have the youngins who think they are extras in ATL...
Anyway, he's so cute! He has dimples. And he's nice and can actually hold a conversation (as much as you can talk while skating). He will usually come and find me on the slow songs, because I can't keep up with him on the fast ones. He generally saves me from my Skating Rink Stalkers...usually some older men who are looking at me like I'm naked. Ugh. But besides that, me skating with KC usually causes a problem with Roll Bounce. I've told RB that he needs to get over it...I don't get to see KC often. He works/lives about an hour and a half from here, so he is not at the rink every week. I gotta get my skate in when I can! I come to the rink to skate, and that doesn't mean I'm always going to skate with the same person. Fools act like we are up in there dating or something. We're just skating! LOL
And that's really all it boils down to. I just like skating with him and talking to him. I don't want his number. I know his first name, but I don't even need to know his last name. We don't even have to interact when we are outside of the rink. I just need him to glide me around the rink for a few songs, and then I'm good for the rest of the week! LOL
